This may seem a little backwards, but I own more guns than I do knives. I must be falling behind, but I figure I would rather have a new (your fantasy firearm) than a Randall knife. For $100 more than what I willing to pay for a Bark River Bravo 1 I can buy a S&W police issue .40 from J&G Sales.

I have more guns then knives as well. Your right some of these knives out there cost as much as a nice new firearm.

I have thought about that, really. I have 3 pistols - a relatively pimped out Colt 1911, a Glock 26, and a S&W 642 .38. I figure that those three cover the bases, and that I really won't use any more than that. I have 3 rifles - a SKS for plinking, a heavy barrel flat top AR15 in 7.62, and an M4. Bases covered there. BUT, I use my knives for so many different chores - granted I have about 5 times as many as I need, but I couldn't get by w/ just 3 like I can w/ pistols or rifles. At a minimum, I'd want a large and a small folder, a heavy chopper, a midsized utility knife, and 2 small fixed blades - one thin and one thick bladed (such as an Ontario RAT3 versus a Scrapyard Dogfather - similar in size, but have very different strengths/weaknesses). Of course I have a whole lot more than that, but it takes at least 5 knives to cover the "bases," at least for me.

Great point though - one that I've thought about quite a bit!

It can be a hard choice. I'm just amazed that some of these knives especially some of the folders cost 600 bucks plus. Some of my friends think I'm crazy to spend 50 bucks on a knife. Times have changed or people have changed.

My friends all know that $50 is the minimum for a good knife.

Nice set up man I love the M14, I don't have one but I have a friend who has one. He tears up the targets at the range. 308 is a fantastic round one of my favorites.

Of course I don't actually use that Gerber, I use a Kabar with that setup. I am going to trade it for the new $15 G.I. Tanto. Kabars are getting expensive to replace. The last one I bought was $30 at the PX back in 1997 or so. I also prefer the S&W model 19 to the Mil-Spec 1911.

There is favorite pistol posing with a Western Field knife made in Boulder CO. That my friend is an excellent game knife. Oh and the test subject for the bag of QVC knives.

Another Great set up. Your ready for whatever comes at you. Nice. I like the QVC knife killer.

I have or had a Western knife like the one in your photo. I found it in
the woods on a hiking trail. The blade was rusted. I sand blasted it clean. I'm not sure it's around here anymore. I'll see if I can find it and post some photos of it. I haven't seen it in many years and forgot about it until I saw your photo.

I haven't been able to locate mine yet. I don't know much about their history.

I just remember all the old timers had leather handled knives on their hips. I have them from just about all the makers. I have more Westerns though. The steel gets scary sharp very quickly on the ceramic stick.

I don't own one. From what I hear they are pretty good. They are still in use today. They are still a favorite of military and police snipers. I also hear they perform well in cold freezing temperatures and are used a lot by arctic troops.
