Breeden Pathfinder

This is the first knife that made me notice Bryan Breedens Knives. The Pathfinder is a hefty but handy fixed blade designed for camp and kitchen use. Made from 01 steel and orange G-10 scales, a signature feature on all Breeden knives. This is a real user friendly workhorse.

Pathfinder Specs:

Steel-01

Blade Length-5" Full Flat Grind

Thickness-1/8" and 3/16"

Cutting Surface-4 7/8"

Overall-10"

RC-59-60

Pathfinder and PSKK II

Lets start with the handle. Nice big handles easy to grip with gloves.

Compared to the PSKK II it is a full sized knife.

In the hand.

Forward Grip

Choking up with the thumb for push cuts.

You can use this grip for some short chops. It can deliver a nice chop. Best used with a lanyard.

This review will be focused on the ability to cut and what better place to test it then the kitchen?
First some Salmon. It cut through the fish and even skinned well since someone around here didn't want the skin on theirs.

Jalapenos. Not for me!

Apples were up next.

Nice thin slices were easy with the Pathfinder.

You can imagine by now there is a nice patina happening.
So if the wife is a little strange about you buying a new knife tell her its a kitchen knife!

Dayhiking with the Pathfinder.

Very easy to see even with the glare of the sun.

Taking a break after some wood work.

Some closing shots of the Breeden pathfinder.

Here was a little guy looking for his own path.

As always feel free to PM or email me with any questions. Give Bryan a call he is a real nice guy and always has something cooking up.

Amazing stuff and very utilitarian knife.

It's interesting that didn't rust or have any surface oxidation after cutting peppers and fruits and being soaked in water for some time.

I thought O1 was a pretty rusty steel, albeit an excellent and forgiving steel.

Good Work!

Good job again. I like this one better then the first one. I like the heavier construction also. How much are these and how hard are they to get

Hey noss they are easy to get now he just makes them as he gets the order. Give him a call he is a nice guy to talk to. Wait till you see the next knife being shipped to me tomorrow. Its very bushcrafty like a skookum bush tool.

Sharp the blade had a real patina forming kind of purple then brown I used some 400 grit to get it out. Nice and sharp again.

More great pics! Bear the Dog, Wilderness Guy, Jungle Adventurer and Cuisine King.

I definately will get me some of these for the kitchen. Beats the hell out of having a standard kitchen knife. Too many expenses at the moment. Although I did replace my digital camera yesterday so I hope to get some nice blade pics happening.

Cool what kind of camera did you get?

Bryan is offering the Pathfinder in 1/8" thickness, the one in the review is 3/16" and it cuts and slices very well. I hear the 1/8" version is way better for the kitchen especialy not to mention wood work. Call him up he will tell you that his edc is the Pathfinder in 1/8" thickness.

I had a Canon IXUSi 4.1MP. The LCD screen died. I could buy a similar one for less than the repair cost so I bought a Canon IXUS 960IS. You guys call it the Canon Elph Power Shot 950IS. It's got 12.1MP although I did some reading and because the sensor on compact Cameras is small you shouldn't use more than 8MP, 6PM recommended. But...this is a new model for Canon and I read some write up on this model saying that the sensor is larger and it is comparable to some Digital SLR's. I'm not a camera guy. My old camera took some amazing pics and I don't intend to print them larger than A4. So I think this one should serve well for my needs. It has some extra features my old one didn't (like a view finder) have so I'm doing some instruction book reading. Pity Canon don't use Zeiss or Leica Lenses. I collect binoculars and have a soft spot for those two firms. I know the Panasonic Leica and Sony Zeiss are Japanese made under licence. But like I said, a soft spot.

Thanks I wouldn't call myself a photographer but I have taken pictures for the RAT Cutlery website under Field Photos. I did the photos for SWAT Magazines article on the RC-4 coming out soon. Got some knife makers sending me their knives to do photo reviews and write ups. But I just like being in the outdoors and testing out knives. Thanks for the kind words.

Cool. It's a lot of fun to go out and test knives. Have you seen Evolute's photos They are simply amazing nature photos. Both of you take photos much better then I do.

Ditto on that Noss. I love Bears pics. The composition of shot is outstanding. Very artistic. I chuck a knife on the floor or a place mat and click. Although I stopped using the place mat a couple of years ago when my wife busted me using her dining stuff as a back ground for oily bits of metal. Evolute's website has some beautiful shots. Also some good survival info as well.

Thanks TAC45/Noss I am getting a package from ML knives and Muskratman Knives soon for review. Just did a small Gossman knives passaround review on bladeforums. Maybe I can post the link or at least some of the pictures? I am lucky enough to have some nice friends like the guys at RAT Cutlery who trust my field pictures enough to ask me to use them for cool things.
TAC you getting a Breeden? I should be getting a package today from Bryan with a new special knife for review, can't wait.
