(I've got about 4 reviews in this thread now - some of the wording/context might not make sense as they were originally posted in the Scrapyard forum. The 2nd set is kind of blurry... my son Jordan put a thumbprint on my lense and I didn't notice it until I got home!)

Well, Ilyana, Jordan, the Scrapyard Dogfather, and the Ranger RD9 jumped in the Explorer today and went to Fort Fizzle. The Fort got its name because there was a battle there, US against the Nez Perce, and the US got their @$$ kicked. Hence... their plan "fizzled." I didn't name it.

So I walked a little until I found a good piece of downed Pine for the DF and RD9 to eat. Then I found a downed trunk to use as a chopping base.

RD9 Recruve up first - has a nice sweet spot right at the belly about 3" from the end of the blade. Grip feels nice. The weight is just slightly forward, and is surprisingly light (probably due to the recurve - I've never handled a stock RD9).

And as expected, the RD9 made short work of that chunk of Pine.

The Dogfather's turn. What a beast. Just Brute Force smashing down through that same chunk of pine. The weight is very forward, and it chops well.

I was really able to unload with the DF since the handle was so shock absorbing.

Then I cut some smaller stuff with both knives. Each of them effortlessly chopped through this kindling sized pine.

They both had their strengths, but no real weaknesses. The RD9 is lighter, quicker, sharper, and would work well on vegitation as well as wood. It also has a very substantial skull crusher, which could come in handy. The DF is heavy, destructive, comfortable, and makes short work of anything in its path. I was somewhat skeptical of the ResC when I first got it, but am amazed at how comfortable it is to use. Both knives are clearly winners.

The RD4 got to cut some smaller stuff today as well:

The knives all performed beyond my expectations - its no wonder that Ranger and Scrapyard are my two favorite knife makers:

Then we all went back by the river...

and since Jordan wouldn't let me put him down, Ilyana put away the knives :) Overall, it was a very nice little outing!

Fantastic brother, I'm glad to see you use and test your knives. Most people never do anything with them.

I love the blue handles on the ranger. It's different. They really make the knife stand out.

Thanks for sharing.

You have a nice looking family. Your a lucky man.

Thanks - glad to share - least I can do considering what you do for all of us! Anything up and coming soon? I think they've got some CGFBM's up on the site right now for $430 or so. Justin has RD9's at the usual price of $110 w/ sheath also. I'll bet you have all kinds of sheaths just lying around the place now don't you!?! :)

I have the seal 2000 coming up as soon as I can work out all the details for the test. This one is complicated with the underwater test and cutting test but it is fun to do. The sheaths are stacking up.

Great photos. Thanks

I did this review a little while back... thought I'd update over here as well.

The Dogfather was chomping at the bit - just like the Elk yesterday, the Buffalo were just out of the Dogfather's range...

First, we had a nice little picnic. The weather was overcast and it was windy, or else we would have stayed a lot longer.

Time to release the Dogfather...

"Hmmmm.... I think I've been here before" said the Dogfather. "My teeth marks are all over those chunks of Pine!" And he started Batoning like a Rabid Dog.

Come on Dogfather, you can do better than that. Practice on a little piece first.

OK, time for a big one!

That was fun - chop off another chunk of that log!!

"Dad, really, can we go yet???"

Gotta ask the Dogfather! He says he wants one more picture, for old time's sake, at the big tree by the River.

And we're home.

Look! Spots of finish worn off on the DF's blade!! Andy Wayne's Rat Mastiff would be so Proud!!!

Well, I got a litte tipsy last night, and decided that I was going to sleep off my beers and get up bright and early to take the Dogfather back to the woods. That makes 3 days in a row. 06:30 and Diceman is out of bed, out the door at 06:38.

"Goodmorning, beautiful Montana woods, I am here to eat your trees" said the Dogfather.

A quick warmup...

Rained last night, so some of this stuff was pretty wet. Dogfather took a huge bite in to this log. Never had a problem w/ the DF "hanging up," but due to the wetness of this chunk of wood, the DF burried itself so deep in one chop, that I was able to lift it up off the ground.

Which is much more impressive once you see how big of a piece of wood we're talking about:

Then I found a pretty freshly fallen Pine, and took off a workable sized piece.

OK, maybe a little too thick for my first try at big batoning...

Lets take another piece a few feet up the trunk.

OK, much better.

Getting started...

Cutting it down a little shorter...

OK - Lets do this!!

Another good day of chopping and batoning...

And I'm even getting through the finish on the edge now!

All before most of the world is even awake...

I also gave the Scrapyard Dumpster Mutt a little love the other day as well. Here's that review:

(the wood isn't nearly as rotten as it looks - just the bark!)

Went back to the river today to do some quick tip prys with the DM. Nothing too extreme, but I thought I'd share:

Standard Pose :)

The Ontario RAT3 came too, but didn't get to see any more action than this... (although it just finished slicing up a wonderful NY Strip steak about five minutes ago!)

I'm actually torquing on the knife pretty hard here. This is a little stump of a branch that the Dogfather hacked off last week.

Some Tip Prys - you can see what is left in the 4th pic:

And one more - took a big chunk out on this one!

Great review on the Dog Father. No tree is safe.Makes me want to go out to the woods and do some hacking.

To bad the Buffalo were out of range you could of had Buffalo burgers instead of KFC.

But then again KFC is good to.

The dog father is about 150 bucks. Not a bad price at all.

Zylon - go to the Scrapyard forums at www.scrapyardknives.com and keep an eye open for the next Dogfather release - they go quick, but there are Scrapyard owners all over the world - Europe and Australia, Canada, etc. See you there!

I am predicting you will love your Trialmaster. I have used mine in SanMai for years and love it(the only reason I bought the SanMai one was that I found one at my local sporting goods store for $150 new in Box (unless you count the knife being displayed in the knife display being "used").
