Hey Noss, have you ever thought about testing multitools?
I think a shoot out between some of the bigger multis (Surge, Core, Swisstool, new SOG powerlock) would be cool.

Now that's an interesting idea. I have two Swiss Tools and about half a dozen Leathermans. I love the blade exchange feature on the Surge. You can fit non Leatherman blades that use the Bosch quick change system. Great as it gives you the option of longer saw blades. They wobble slightly as they are thinner than the Leatherman but work well.
Obviously I like the Leathermans. However at work I always carried the Swiss Tool. Many people at work use the Leatherman. But over the years I have seen quite a few Super Tool pliers break. A friend who worked in another government organisation was issued the original Leatherman (later called PST). They gave up on using them as they had a high breakage rate. I havn't heard of similar breakage rates with the Victorinox. The Victorinox in black was issued to the Australian Army. I don't know whether or not they did any tests or just got a good price deal.
I'm not wanting to sound negative on Leathermans. In civilian life I always have a black Charge Ti with me. It works well for the tasks I need to do. Although I admit the small screw driver breaks very easy. I found that out by using it to poke something out that was stuck.
A shoot out of different multitools sounds like a cool idea, expensive but cool. |

Your the first one to suggest this. It would be fun. So many blades to break. Just kidding. I did break the pliers on my Gerber multi tool. I also bent the liners on a SAK using the Phillips screwdriver.

Still waiting "patiently" for the SOG PowerAssist to be released, love the idea of deploying the blades while the main tool is still closed - two assisted blade: PE & SE!!! However, I heard about the old SOG multitools' wire-strippers have the nasty tendency to snap some fingers. Hopefully they've already fixed that.
Generally, I find Leatherman an overpriced hype, for the price/quality-ration is not the best you can get.

| I would love to see with what Noss would come up with for the tests....could do a torque test with the pliers on bolts tightened with a torque wrench and cut different types of wire with the cutters. |

sawing thru a 4x4 or 2x4 should be included, then compare the speeds.
it's kinda hard to come up with ideas to torture test the nippers, i think
