Just got myself a nice barber leather strop from Solingen and some Puma paste for the strop. After I've done my knife at 1200 grit I tested with a print paper, results were expected. Then I went on with the leather strop smear with the paste, and stopped after I felt no resistance. Tested with a print paper again, SCAREY SHARP!!! Then I decided to push to limit as our good olde Noss does, as stroped it one side as the other 20 times. The edge became a tiny bit less sharp, but holded up much better than regular scarey sharp. So here is my conclusion: by over-stroping the knife I've created a mini convex edge on it - is this a mad man talking or do you all have the same illusion?
A mind all logic is like a knife all blade. It makes the hand bleed that uses it. - Rabindranath Tagore
Very interesting. If you did create a micro convex edge this would make sense the edge held up better. A convex edge also will move the paper away from the edge and bind less so this should increase cutting performance and so the difference basically will come down to better geometry. This will make a duller knife cut more effective.
It's hard to beat a good convex edge when it comes to cutting and durability.

I understand what you're saying noss. and after so much stropping you will def. create a convex edge. and it probably got duller because the strop kind of rolled over infront of the edge, once it's so sharp (theres a term for it, but I forget) dulling it a little. the two things are unrelated I think.
it did get duller, but because it was convexed it cut better, if you made it sharper it would cut even better. (as long as you kept the convex edge)
I actually convexed part of my kershaw scallion on my pants. :D
