Before when it was used carbon steel they were the best hunting knives and a object of desire. They really have a long tradition of making knives - since 1769. nowadays in use are stainless steels, they are also handmade as before, but i thing that they had more quality before than today. |

no problem. I saw your message about new testing and I have to say I understand.
and another one... How do you get all this knives to test? Do you buy them or you have an agreement with the knife maker as a sponsorship? Idea that you have is excellent, maybe you could put some "scientific" data.... |

patch:I buy some of them myself. Some knives people (the public) donate. The only maker that has donated a blade to date is Busse Combat. I'm not a scientist so I can't provide scientific data.

I think the essence of your tests is not the technical data, but rather real life situation square. The no-nonsense apprpoach attracts real hard users from the sheeple in the first place.
In conclusion, if you got sponsored by a manufacturer, you are independent no more. However, if you tell them you're gonna torture test their products, and let them use the footage for their own promotional gain, in exchange for free knives to tests, it would save you a lot of $$$, and still you remain independent. I'm thinking about brands like SOG, because they're into that kind of puplicity.
PS.Anyway, maybe you can contact Cold Steel to test their stuff, but it won't be in "controled envirement" anymore, thus no more warranty. More important,it would leave our BELOVED Lynn C Thompson no room in his next ?????? Proof video. (COLD STEEL VIDEO=SHEER ENTERTAINMENT )

It's hard to say where some makers stand on this site. Some never say anything in the forums. Some say a lot. I did contact some in the beginning most I never heard back from. I did contact Cold Steel about the GI Tanto but I never heard back from them either.
Many don't seem to put much faith in the knife magazines. Since they are paid for advertisements. I certintly don't want to get paid by any maker to test their knives. If a maker wants to donate one for testing this is fine, Just as long as they don't put any demands or restrictions on me.
