Great videos. Very informative. I have a hard time with the idea of just taking a small knife out in the woods. I find I can do what I need to with a big knife or a machete just the same.

What is everyones opinion on this

A Dull knife is always better than a broken knife.

I like to have an axe or machete around a camp site, but I don't like to carry them on long hikes....I get alot more use out of a 4" knife and they are alot easier to carry.

If I was going on a long hike I see your point. I like to pack light also. I feel naked without a chopper though. Granted it's a little harder to do some fine work with one.

Over the years I have toyed with different size blades in the wild. It comes down to what one does with their blade the most outdoors. For me I always need firewood because I cook on a fire I never carry a stove with me I gave up mine long ago. So I prefer to have a large chopping blade since chopping is my main knife use outdoors. I don't clean game ever so I don't need a small fine knife for this.

After using the Mora clipper outdoors I will probably add one of these to my pack for the versatility of havening the best of both worlds. They weigh almost nothing so it won't make much of a weight difference for me.

I use them alot for camp cooking, sometimes for cleaning fish or field dressing game, making fuzz sticks for fire starting and for utility around the camp site. I don't do much bushcraft type stuff but it is nice to know I have a knife that will handle intricate wood working. I seldom need to chop anything to keep a fire going but I like doing it when I have a chopper around. I have never really needed to split wood at all and that is something that I never do for a camp fire.

I personally love bigger knifes, 9-10 inches long bowies. That is my style, its my option number one for the woods, but ofcourse i wouldnt use it as a fishing knife. With 4 inch long blade its quite dificult to cut bred, and i need to "feel" the knife in my hand.

I don't split wood often with my knife if I don't have to. The woods I frequent sometimes are very wet from rain and they stay we wet for a while because of the heavy forest canopy overhead. Not much sun gets through. I sometimes spit wood in small pieces to get to the inner dry sections to help get a fire going after that I don't.

I use to live in North Carolina in the Smokies. There is water everywhere and we use to fish the rivers and streams a lot.
It was nice to catch some fish for dinner when we were successful doing so. I would clean them with my SAK I use to carry.

Where I live now and camp I can't fish because there is no fishing waters anywhere except small muddy streams full of snakes.

It just depends on you environment and needs I guess or if you carry a big loaf of bread like B-LORD You need a big knife.

I'm not skilled in Bushcraft myself. It looks like fun to learn.

if i went camping i would carry a big and a small knife.. or maybe a do it all knife like the A1.

for fires I love splitting the wood, I just think instead of throwing a big log over a fire that only going to get half burn i split it into tons of tiny pieces and it bruns big and hot and if you have alot it can last a pretty long time.

The A1 is a nice size blade and a top performer. You can do finer work with it but it also chops very well and splits well also.
A great knife all the way around.

B-LORD: Your bread test reminds me of when I had a bread making machine. The bread was very soft but very tough. I had to use a very sharp blade and high performance knife to cut it. Not any blade would work on it without tearing up the bread.

For bread, a serrated blade is the way to go.
