No problem I get pretty angry too sometimes. To slipfirep40 you're not getting it man. Not to be insulting or anything, but what if you run out of ammo? Jokes about combat equipment or how to use it aren't appreciated in escrima, or for that matter in any serious conversation or forum. And THINK about the damage you could have done to someone who has no experiance or training. I think we have all done enough damage to each other already. Anyway, I think we should get back to the original topic. WHAT IS THE BEST FIGHTING KNIFE?

I was joking. No harm inteded.
But seriously, I would prefer a bayoneted rifle. The rifle extends your reach to the point that you can stab the enemy, but they cant stab you. also, because of your two handed grip on a much larger object (as opposed to a one handed grip on an little knife handle) you can stab and slash much harder. and if they get in too close, there are many ways to use the rifle to attack, defend against his blade, and increase the distance between you and your opponent.
However, I believe this would be the most efficient fighting knife:

B-LORD, Whats it made out of? Slipfirep40, yes, a bayonet will give you distance, what will you do when your opponent grabs the barrel of your weapon with his FREE HAND, shoves it sideways, and stabs you with his KNIFE HAND ? Bayonets are meant as last resort weapons. That means militaries issue them and train people on them just in case they run out of ammo, and have no time to draw a knife. Knives allow you to use both hands. One for using the knife, and one for checking you adversaries weapon. Having a free hand in combat is a definant advantage. Strength isn't necessary in edged weapon combat. Take this as an example, if you could only bench press 50 pounds, you could put a maximum of 25 pounds of pressure on the point of your knife/bayonet/whatever. The tip of a knife is almost microscopic, 25 pounds of pressure is more than enough to drive a sharp object through someones body [and most people I know can bench at least 150]. Just like there are ways to defend against the knife there are ways to attack with it. And what the HELL is that........THING?
PLEASE GET SERIOUS, I DON'T HAVE TO KNOW MUCH ABOUT KNIVES TO KNOW THAT ISN'T SOMETHING I WOULD WANT FOR COMBAT. |

I would think you would want a knife that was strong and fast. Soldiers are going to be wearing heavy protective clothing maybe a flak jacket as well. So a knife that could penetrate all of this without breaking may be of benefit.

don't worry im not insulted mattmann, i understand your trying to educate, but in my situation just being a kid if i pulled a knife on someone i was fighting it would turn serious and is a good way to make more problems than its worth, so i would rather just fist fight. but i didn't consider your situation, going into the army. but anyways...back to knives.
i guess you would want more stabbing power than slashing, so a knife with alot of belly is not neeeded really. so yeah i still like the PBF's and it may be worth it to check out the secondary market for one, dependind on what your willing to spend. they come in threee different styles and have a good pommel, wich i think would be really helpfull.
but i think a push dagger would go good along with another knife or dagger, there often smaller and don't really take up your whole hand, i think you could stil grab and puch with it in your hand. idk though. you would have to hold one to find out. |

LOL, I got that from bladeforum's "world's ugliest knife" thread. loosen up a little.
On a more serious note I believe this would make a nice fighting knife.

| Eatingmuchface, I've consulted with my instructor, and he tells me you would need a knife capable of all types of knife attacks. [ stab, slash, gouge, rips, fillet cuts, dice cuts ] On the moderators' and your advice about push blades he informs me that the type of handle used on them would make it difficult to perform gouges, rips, and fillet cuts. I am personally concerned about the lack of a guard. [ in knife fighting cutting at your opponents hands is common and encouraged by instructors as a non-lethal solution to self-defense issues, but in combat I would do it anyway to help me survive. ] |

I suggest a standard issue K-Bar. It has a guard a handle that can used in all positions, clip point. They have been through many wars an I'm sure many knife fights on the battlefield.

MATTMANN: You should look into the Boker range of Applegate Fairbairn daggers. Their handles contain Pb weights and are detachable in order for you to optimize both the balance and weight. In addition they come bead blasted and camo coated. My favourite hand to hand blade is the Cold Steel Tai Pan, because of the weight, balance, feel and the fact that its tip is capable of 180¤ tip-slashes and tough for a dagger.

MATTMANN: Also Check out Extrema Ratio Dobberman, Col Moschin, Praetorian and Gerber Silver Trident it has a big guard.
Since the action is here, I wonder if the twist leverage feedback from Microtech Currahee is any good ? Or should I go for SureFire Echo ?
