Posted - 05/08/2008 : 09:38:32 Thanks men. And your welcome.
This test took a lot of work to pull off. It only took a year
lafayette: It's the best cutter compared to many other knives I tested but it would still cut well enough. I agree with you about sharpening AUS-6 it can be a pain especially if it has a very thick edge. I have a few other SOG knives in AUS-6 with thick edges and man I can work on them for an hour and get no where. I did sharpen the Seal knife up a little before hand because I dulled it some since I have had it for a while and was testing a few setups with it.
kurodrago: I would be interesting to see how titanium would compare It is soft so I don't know if would want one diving or not compared to a steel knife. I'm glad to finish this one. I put a lot of time into it an can now move on.
eatingmuchface: It was convenient that the wood floated up to the surface it made cleaning the tank in between dives easy. It was a fun test to do. I myself got to really use a knife underwater and learned a lot about how one could be used. As a diver it has giving me some new insight I lacked before.
Gman112: Yeah the knife did it's job and completed many hard underwater tasks. I was impressed with it.
Tac45:I have read the same bad reports on the Seal 2000. Arm chair reports is a great way to put it. The original was 440 stainless before they made the switch AUS-6. I wounder if the new ones compare to this one. Newer is not always better. SOG use to make the Tiger Shark in the very good Japanese SK-5 carbon steel. They abandoned this a long time ago for some crazy reason. I'm fortunate to own one of the SK-5 originals of this knife.

Posted - 05/08/2008 : 07:16:26 Mate! That was magnificent. Maybe SOG should re introduce the SEAL 2000. The Japanese made knife truly performs. Your test has certainly shown that to be the case. I wonder if SOG changed the knife after a lot of bad arm chair reports on other forums. They seem to have done that before when a myth of how crap a knife is gets perpetuated by folks jumping on the uninformed opinion bandwagon. If I remember a lot of that rubbish started before the knife had hit the streets. When SOG changed the test spec knife which was 440C to AUS6. The opinion mongers jumped. I have a suspicion that the Seki City made AUS6 may be better than the new AUS8 from Taiwan? Seki has been home to metal working for a very long time.
Noss you have outdone yourself. That was one professional production. |

Posted - 05/07/2008 : 20:31:33 That was a great test! Thanks a lot. I don't know much about dive knives, but that seems like one of the best. It was very tough and durable, and aus6 is very stain resistant I think those are some of the best qualities for a dive knife. If I start diving that would definitely be the knife that i would want. |

Posted - 05/07/2008 : 15:51:13 Extremely good. I don't think that H1 or titanium can catch up with it. Especially when cutting through cable "only sh*t incredible" that thing has really Impress Me. Man.. you've put on this large effort and energy Thanks.... you must be tired?!!
They raised a knife in the right hand an pointed towards heaven saying:I have started the truth!

Posted - 05/07/2008 : 15:32:57 This is an excellent test !!!! I suppose it took a lot of time, energy and efforts to organize such a test. Good job! I have had this knife for about 7 years. I knew it was fairly strong, but that's strong !!! However, as far as i am concerned, it is not a very good cutter and it is not easy to sharpen it.
